Pecan Crusted French Toast with Cream Cheese Glaze

This is the brunch recipe you need. The brown sugar pecan crust adds the perfect texture to the fluffy custardy french toast. And the cream cheese glaze just takes this to the next level.

Pecan Crusted French Toast with Cream Cheese Glaze

Ingredients

Cream Cheese Glaze
  • 4 oz Cream Cheese, softened
  • 4 TB Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 3-4 TB Whole Milk
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
Pecan Topping
  • 1/2 cup Pecans, chopped
  • 1/3 cup Brown Sugar (light or dark)
  • 1/2 tsp Kosher Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Cinnamon
French Toast
  • 4-5 slices, Brioche or Challah, about 1 inch thick
  • 4 Eggs, whisked
  • 1/4 cup of Whole Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Ground Nutmeg
  • 2 TB Granulated Sugar
  • 4 TB Unsalted Butter

Instructions

Cream Cheese Glaze
  1. Cream together butter and cream cheese using a stand mixer or handheld mixer.
  2. Add in powdered sugar, vanilla and milk until it's a smooth consistency and can be easily drizzled over the french toast.
French Toast
  1. Combine pecan topping ingredients.
  2. Whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and sugar and place in another container big enough to fit the slices of bread.
  3. Place the slices of bread into the egg mixture allowing it to absorb on both sides.
  4. Transfer the soaked bread to a sheet pan and sprinkle the pecan mixture on top of one side.
  5. Bring a nonstick pan to medium heat, and add in the butter.
  6. Place the bread pecan side up and cook until the bottom has fried for a couple minutes.
  7. Flip the bread and pan fry this side for just a minute, until the pecans have toasted and the brown sugar has caramelized.
  8. Transfer french toast to a plate and drizzle over cream cheese glaze.
